Practice Info!
Operations:
When your pet has to undergo a surgical procedure, we understand that it is a stressful time for you both. The veterinary surgeons and nurses will be happy to explain the procedure to you and answer any questions or concerns you may have. We use the most up-to-date anaesthetic regimes which minimize the risks involved in surgery.
Emergencies:
Outside surgery opening times, a 24hour emergency service is provided by Parkwood Veterinary Group, 62 Hensington Road, Woodstock, Oxfordshire OX20 1JL Telephone number 01993 811355. If need be the telephone number can also be obtained from a recorded message at the Witney or Carterton surgery.
Home Visits:
We prefer to attend to animals at the surgery as examination can be more thorough and all the necessary equipment and drugs are to hand. However, essential home visits can usually be arranged during weekday mornings, although they incur an extra charge. Please give as much notice as possible.
Prescriptions:
The supply of many medicines is controlled by law and requires a prescription. We usually supply such medicines directly but can provide a written prescription, if requested, to allow the drug to be sourced from another veterinary surgeon or pharmacy. Our veterinary surgeons can tell you the price of any product which they propose to dispense.
Repeat Prescriptions:
Due to the potential side effects of some drugs, we are obliged to check your pet regularly.
For medicines supplied by us, the veterinarian will provide a prescription card detailing the medication and dosage advised, showing the ‘expiry‘ date when your pet next requires an examination. Please bring this card when you collect a repeat prescription.
Alternatively, a prescription can be provided for supply outside the practice, although the total amount can only suffice until the next check-up date. There is a £5 charge per product for this service.
We request that you give us 24 hours notice when you need medications. This includes any flea and worming treatment.
Euthanasia:
We understand that this is a very sad and difficult decision and to try to make the situation as comfortable as possible we endeavour to carry out this service during a quite time at the surgery.
Many people wish to take their beloved pet home after we have performed the euthanasia, but we can offer the option of having your pet cremated or your pet cremated and his/her ashes returned to you.
We employ the services of Limekiln Crematorium at Stroud who have worked with this surgery for many years.
If you wish however, there is a pet cemetery at Hailey and we can supply you with the number should you wish to take this option.
Fees and Payments:
Fees are set to maintain the high standard of our medical and surgical facilities and we will happily provide an estimate of the probable cost of treatment. Please bear in mind that any estimate given can only be approximate as a pet’s illness may not follow a predictable course.
Payment is expected at the time of consultation or on collection of your pet. If animals need to be hospitalised for any length of time then it is our policy to keep clients up-to-date on the medical situation and the ongoing costs.
Insurance:
Pet insurance is becoming increasingly important both for third party cover and for peace of mind in knowing that you will not have to compromise on veterinary treatment. We do recommend pet health insurance and some companies provide a period of free insurance if the policy is started when the pet is young. We do not , however, advise about the choice of insurance company and are independent from them. Whist we shall provide every assistance in the completion of claims, we expect the client to be responsible for payment in the normal way.
Complaints & Standards:
We hope you never have reason to complain about the standards of service received from Tremain Veterinary Group. However, if you have a complaint or wish to make a comment, please direct these in first instance to the receptionist who will refer the matter to our practice manager if a satisfactory solution cannot be achieved.
Ownership of Records:
Case records including radiographs & similar documents are the property of the Tremain Veterinary Group. Copies can be provided on request and all the information can be forwarded (with the owner’s consent) to another Veterinary Surgeon.
